Circulation Questions

How do I get a library card?

Can I get a library card if I do not live in Amarillo?

How old does my child have to be to get a library card of their own?

There are no age restrictions for owning a library card, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian in order to obtain one.  

How do I renew my library card?

Card renewals must be made in person and require an ID or utility bill with proof of current address. 

How long can I keep a book out?

The standard checkout time for items is 2 weeks, but you can see other checkout options on our Checkout Policies page.

Can I return books to any Amarillo Public Library?

Yes. You can return your checkouts to any of our five Library Locations.

How do I renew materials by: phone / in person / online?

What is the policy for overdue & lost materials?

How many books and other materials can I check out?

Requesting an Item?

To request an item be added to our collection you can Contact Us and let us know. If you want to just check out an item that is not in our collection visit the Interlibrary Loan page.

What is my PIN what does it used for?

Your PIN is a password attached to your card (usually a 4 digit number). You use your PIN to access several of our online service, as well as our Patron Computers. 

General Questions

Can the Library's catalog or other databases be accessed from my home?

Yes. You can search the Online Catalog using the search bar at the top right of the page. You can access our database services by visiting the Databases page. 

Does the Library have a place where I can prepare a resume?

Yes. We have on site and online Job Services which can help you develop a resume. 

How can I access old newspaper articles?

We have a collection of micro film newspapers dating back to 1915. You can view the collection by visiting the Downtown Library.

Are meeting rooms available at the Library?

Yes. Visit our Meeting Rooms page for more information.  

Does the Library offer any programs?

The library hosts a variety of storytimes, bookclubs, programs, and events. See our Calendar of Events for more information. 

Does the Library offer classes?

Does the Library have a fax machine for public use?

Yes. Each of our 5 library locations has a fax machine available to the public. Fax Pricing Information 

Does the Library have a scanner for public use?

Yes. We have a scanner available at our Downtown Library.

How do I check out Ebooks?

Instructions as to how you access the elibrary can be found on our Computer Tutorials page under Cloud Library.

Where can I get tax forms?

Tax forms are available at our Library Locations starting mid December until a week after tax day. You can also print off tax forms online at IRS.gov

Does the Library accept donations?

Yes. For more information about donations visit our Donations page.

Can I get something notarized at the library?

No. At this time the Amarillo Public Library does not provide notary services.
